PROJECT
Personal Initiative
YEAR
2022
OBJECTIVE
To develop a financial product that simplifies expense tracking and provides users with clear financial insights, enhancing their ability to manage personal finances effectively.
ROLE
Product Designer
Conducted market research to identify user needs and gaps in existing expense tracking solutions.
Designed a user-centric interface focused on simplicity and clarity.
Developed wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize the product's functionality.
APPROACH
Created an intuitive and accessible interface that allows users to track expenses effortlessly. The design emphasizes clarity, with visual representations of spending patterns and budgeting tools to help users make informed financial decisions. Prioritized features that enable easy input of expenses, categorization, and real-time financial summaries.
MY PROCESS 🚗

THE UX RESEARCH 📜
Following the initial motivation behind this project, I was also led to believe that a high percentage of individuals are prone to lose track of their expenses due to a high number of financial commitments. I decided to conduct a guerilla semi-structured interview & survey study to confirm this hypothesis.
Research Goal: The main goal of this research was to inquire about the financial lifestyle of participants (savings practices, spending, expenses management, and choice of banking). This research aims to get substantial data and information that could help refine the approach of this idea.

Method & Recruitment Plan
I used Google Forms and Google Meet to gather qualitative data for this research – A guerilla approach in which I asked participants semi-structured interview & survey questions. I recruited 18 participants for this study. (Working-class adults and students from different locations in Nigeria). I used an interview script as a guide and asked follow-up questions based on answers from the participants.

SUMMARY OF KEY INSIGHTS FROM RESEARCH DATA 📊
A few questions later, I found that participants want to see their financial statements more frequently and know exact figures of their weekly/monthly expenses. I also found that participants are already familiar with using mobile apps for their finances (to perform transactions, view history/financial statements, and save money).

RECOMMENDATIONS AND NEXT STEPS
I identified opportunities to follow up with designing a product that is efficient in keeping track of daily, weekly, and monthly expenses as well as subscriptions. The product will also help participants adopt a savings mindset and plan for their future.
HOW MIGHT I? 🤔
Identifying opportunities from research insights
I identified a few concerns from research and then identified opportunities from those concerns through “How Might I” statements. I then went on to ideate probable solutions and product features from the “How Might I’s.”

TASK FLOWS 🧬
I drew out two primary task flows that would inform the prototypes and mockups – "Adding an account" and "Downloading statements."
